Wake by Lisa McMann
Author Lisa McMann explores the science of dreaming as she lets readers discover that not all dreams are sweet. In the fictional novel Wake, seventeen-year-old Janie gets sucked into other people's dreams for as long as she can remember, and it's getting old. The falling, the naked-but-nobody-notices, and the sex-crazed dreams guarantee her to not get a good nights rest herself. Janie's seen enough fantasy booty to last her a lifetime. She can't tell anybody about her gift, as no one would believe her anyway. Or worse, they'd all think she was a psychopath crying out for attention.

So Janie lives on the extreme, cursed with an ability she doesn't want and can't control. Then, during one of her normal dream routines, she falls into a gruesome nightmare. This isn't just any normal nightmare that she's experienced before. The nightmare she has found herself in is not only one that sends chills down her spine, but also for the first time, Janie is more than a witness to someone else's twisted psyche. She is a participant. As you read through this novel, you find yourself like Janie, an observer.

A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hossini
Author of best-selling novel The Kite Runner, Hossini, in his new work A Thousand Splendid Suns, tells a breathtaking story set against the unstable events of Afghanistan's last thirty years. This narrative focuses on the fear, violence, hope and faith that occurred during the Soviet invasion and the Taliban rebuilding. It is a tale of two generations of characters brought together by the tragedy of war. Their struggles to survive, raise a family, and find happiness are all playing against the odds of the history around them.

Like The Kite Runner, A Thousand Splendid Suns is an amazing account of three decades of Afghan history and a story of family and friendship. It is an outstanding, tear-jerking book of a ruthless war, an improbable companionship, and an unyielding devotion to one's country and those in it. For those who enjoyed The Kite Runner, this book may be another one of your favorites.
