My Top Ten Non-Accessory Accessories
By: Sarah Hawkins10. Burt's Bees Chapstick - I don't have too much to say here, other than it is so good. It makes your lips tingle with minty freshness!
9. My Guitar - This is an accessory I definitely do not carry around on a daily basis. There is something restless and nomadic about having the ability to whip out my guitar and play something, anything.
8. A Sweet Disposition - Being sincerely happy is probably the best thing that you can do for yourself and for others, especially strangers you may see in passing. Smile awhile. (the song 'Sweet Disposition' by Temper Trap in 500 Days of Summer is great too.)
7. My Backpack - For those of you who know me, I bring my backpack everywhere. I used to be a purse girl, then a messenger bag enthusiast, now it is this super comfy backpack that I found at Salvation Army this summer. It was only 3 dollars! It's blue, some type of soft material (cotton maybe?) and is the perfect size for me. Sometimes I leave it on because it adds another layer of heat and I like the feeling of having pressure on my back. Is that weird? Maybe. I don't really care.
6. Bobby Pins - I carry these puppies around like it is my business. Bobby pins are the cure all to any wardrobe malfunction, and most certainly the best thing for any hair day, good or bad.
5. A Frisbee (or as we Ultimate players like to call them: "discs") - I feel like this one is a bit self-explanatory. Always be ready for an impromptu pick-up game or throwing session.
4. Being a Cosmopolitan - This is not in reference to the risque magazine or the alcoholic beverage. The term actually means "world citizen." Stay up to date on the world outside of the Messiah bubble. There is so much going on beyond our own daily lives. It is important to be knowledgeable about the society we live in. Those of you scared to acknowledge it, don't you worry... you can still be in the world and not of it.
3. Good Taste in Music - I'm sorry folks, but there is nothing more cramping to one's one personal style than bad taste in music. Know what you like, and more importantly why you like it.
2. Moleskin Journals - These range in sizes, colors and lines. Honestly, any small journal will do the trick, but they are just too cute in their adorable pack of 3, simply waiting to be filled in. Perfect to jot down random thoughts, ramblings, quotes, doodles, to-do lists. I don't leave home without one. Go ahead, call me a nerd. I don't mind.
1. Presence - I can't think of anything more attractive that simply being in the moment. Listening, seeing, feeling, knowing, learning from the littlest of moments. Allow yourself to be real and to be filled with wonder. In my opinion, there is nothing quite like it.
